Crowns, Bridges, Onlays/Inlays, and Veneers

If you have damaged or decayed teeth, our doctor will help you choose the best solution. Crowns, bridges, onlays/inlays, and veneers are custom made prosthetics made of different materials that are designed to mimic and function like your own natural healthy teeth.
There are many choices and options available and this may be overwhelming and confusing, but our doctors will guide and help you in choosing the best option for your individual need and requirements.

Crowns

A crown, also known as a ‘cap’, is a custom made prosthetic designed to mimic the look and function of a healthy tooth. The crown is a great option when a large piece of tooth is broken or the remaining tooth structure is weak and can not support another restoration with predictable success. There are several material choices that range from gold to porcelain that are specific to each patients needs, our doctors will help you through the process and guide you to select the best option for you.

Procedure:

The entire process is completed over two appointments – approx 1hr5 and 30 mins.

  1. The tooth is prepared for the crown
  2. An impression will be made to fabricate the custom fitting crown and it will be sent to the lab
  3. A temporary crown will be made at the same appointment until the lab has completed the crown
  4. You will need to come back for your final appointment, typically within 2 weeks, for your final crown fitting

Bridges

Bridges are a great option to replace one or several missing teeth, they are also a good option for teeth adjacent to the missing tooth that have already been weakened by large restorations and/or decay. Bridges are a good alternative when implants can not be considered as treatment due to various contraindications.

Types of Bridges;

  • Traditional — Caps are bonded over teeth that lie on either side of the missing one
  • Cantilever — Cap is bonded over a single tooth next to the missing one
  • Resin-bonded — Porcelain or plastic teeth with gums that are supported by metal “wings”

Veneers

If you’re looking to cosmetically correct or enhance the appearance of one or more teeth and improve your smile, we suggest veneers. Veneers are very thin, porcelain or resin shells that you can customize in color and shape, to suit your smile and natural teeth. They are non-invasive and are resistant to future stains.

Common uses for veneers;

  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Misshapen or irregular teeth
  • Teeth that do not respond to traditional whitening treatments
